About Galway

Image of Galway coat of arms

Galway is a modern, thriving, bohemian city located on the west coast of Ireland. The city was first settled in in the year 1124 AD. Modern Galway is a joy to explore with its labyrinthine cobbled streets, colorful shop facades and busy café/ bar culture. There is a pack calendar of festivals and events all year round. Old Ireland has not been lost though, you will still find lots of open fires, traditional music, and open and friendly people ready to welcome you with a smile. Round off your afternoon by taking a stroll along the promenade and watch the sunset over Galway Bay.

Getting Here

Unfortunately Galway doesn't have an international airport within the city limits. However there are 2 airports that serve the city. Shannon international airport and Knock airport. Both airports are a 1 hour drive from Galway but Shannon is an international airport and the 3rd busiest airport in the country, so you will have a much better range of flights to choose from if you fly into Shannon. Enter your details in the fields below and our partners over at Skyscanner will provide you with the most up to date prices and availability. If your flight is a one way flight just leave the return field blank. (Flight list will open in a new window)
